16 Places That Made Me Fall in Love with Mexico City (Again)
Breakfast + Pastries
Maque – Their pastries? Dangerous. The breakfast menu? Comforting in all the right ways. With multiple locations, there’s zero excuse to skip the most important (and most aesthetic) meal of the day.
Ocelote Café – Breakfast therapy. If I had a peso for every time I thought about their tres leches pancakes…
Matcha
Rumor – Let’s talk matcha (finally). CDMX hasn’t always understood the assignment, but Rumor gets it, from strawberry matchas to cream tops.
Another – Not just another cafe… their pistachio matcha was love at first sip. When you arrive, you’ll understand why I stayed longer than I meant to. This place is part café, part wine bar, part restaurant—and somehow does all three effortlessly. Pro tip: I hear the burger is that girl.
SAN – A tiny hole-in-the-wall with big Japan energy. The menu leans innovative—think flavor combos that make you pause in a good way.
Bites + Casual Musts
Maizajo – I’ve only eaten downstairs = standing room only, but worth every second. You’ll watch the magic happen as your tacos are made fresh in front of you. Michelin Guide approved, and your taste buds will agree.
Aguita Fría – I don’t say this lightly: magical. The trout and rabbit-forward menu might make you wonder “why am I here again?” but trust me—whatever hesitation you have will dissolve the moment you take that first bite. The story behind it is as good as the food: a lakeside family-run kitchen turned into one of the most charming restaurants in Juarez. Trust!
Seafood
Abrasamar – One of those “wait, what is this place?” moments when you walk past it in Roma Norte. Dreamy interiors, thoughtful seafood plates and the kind of vibe that makes you feel like you should’ve worn linen. If you leave without trying the tuna tostada, I can’t help you.
Bars + Wine + Chill
Ajeno Barra de Café – A couch-heavy, vinyl-lined bar that feels like your artsy friend’s apartment—but with better drinks. Ideal for a slow night that accidentally turns into “let’s just stay for one more.”
La Clandestina – A bar with indoor/outdoor seating and a hibiscus cocktail I now emotionally depend on. Order the Jamaica Mezcalina and thank me later.
Club Sorbet – Where ice cream and wine meet… need I say more? Picture a backyard party you didn’t know you were invited to—but now you never want to leave.
Hiya Wine Bar – Hidden behind Yoru Sushi (yes, you read that right), this spot is dark, cozy, and exactly where you want to be for light bites, wine, cocktails, and that “I’m off the grid” vibe.
Omakase + Hidden Gems
Kill Bill – From the creators of Another, this omakase spot had me speechless. Low-key (but actually, high-key) one of my favorite meals in CDMX. Every bite? Perfection. The vibe? Intimate but cool. The price? If you’re from LA, you’ll do a double take, because all I could think was “how is this real?”
Feels Like Spain
Restaurante Castizo – If Spain is on your mood board but not your calendar, this spot will get you there in an hour or less. Everything from the paella to the gambas al ajillo are not just authentic—they’re mood-altering.
Unexpected Favorite
Maza Bistrot – Indian food in CDMX? Not what you were expecting—but trust me, it works. Everything here tastes intentional. Think homemade comfort with fine-dining flair. Don’t skip it.
Street Food
Tortas al Fuego – This spot is basically my personality at this point. A street vendor making the (not to be dramatic) best chicken Milanesa torta I’ve ever had in my life. It’s the kind of thing you crave mid-flight. You’re supporting local, and eating good.
